Fusion Engineering is seeking a structural engineer to join our multi-disciplinary scientific and engineering consulting team. We serve industrial, insurance, and litigation clients across the country and throughout the world. Our team assists clients in “making the complex simple” by providing technical expertise across a range of subject matters including design analysis, post-accident investigation and reconstruction, failure analysis, and intellectual property matters. Candidates must possess a strong work ethic with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. 

Job responsibilities:

  • Conduct field investigations and analyze failures involving all types of structures and construction problems including residential, commercial and industrial properties.
  • Determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, construction defects and building system failures, including envelope, roof, wall and glazing
  • Assignments may include foundation settlement investigations, structural assessments, site evaluations, sub-surface investigations, vibration analysis, construction site accidents, and building egress accident evaluations
  • Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards
  • Assess structural compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Travel to accident scenes or client sites to perform inspections, gather data, and secure evidence
  • Evaluate existing materials to draw conclusions and/or identify an action plan
  • Manage projects from inception to completion, providing guidance to clients
  • Participate on multi-disciplinary teams to analyze complex issues
  • Prepare concise written reports of analysis and conclusions
  • Provide testimony of findings at deposition or trial
  • Author technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Present at technical conferences
  • Develop client relationships and promote business growth
  • Assist in marketing technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in structural engineering or related field
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably including experience in consulting and/or testifying
  • Proficient in structural analysis and design, construction technology, structural dynamics, vibrations, and construction failure analysis
  • Experienced in investigations of building damage, building envelope performance, repair, and rehabilitation of structures, construction defect analysis, and construction disputes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work at a fast-pace in a team environment and independently
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Attention to detail 

Travel requirements: Up to 35%, as required by project work
